As the warmer months approach, so does hurricane season. For those who live and work along the Gulf Coast, this time of year brings heightened awareness and preparation for potentially powerful and destructive storms.
Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, with the greatest potential for storm development during this time. While many of us have experienced hurricanes before, it’s important to stay vigilant and review safety procedures each year—being prepared can make all the difference.
Workplace Preparedness
If a storm forms in the Gulf, we will closely monitor it from start to finish. All employees should be familiar with the storm plan for their specific facility or platform. These plans may vary depending on the company and location, so please refer to your platform supervisor for guidance.
Evacuations will be conducted as quickly and safely as possible, but patience is key—everyone’s safety is the top priority, and many of us have loved ones we’re working to return home to.

Home Preparedness Tips
During your time off, take steps to prepare your home and family:
Before the Hurricane
Replenish emergency kits and essential supplies.
Secure loose outdoor items.
Board up windows with plywood.
Fill up your vehicle’s fuel tank.
Fully charge phones, radios, flashlights, and other battery-operated devices.
Stay informed with local emergency weather updates.
During the Hurricane
Remain indoors, away from windows; stay in the center of the home on the ground floor.
Continue monitoring emergency broadcasts via radio or television.
Turn off non-essential electrical appliances and devices.
Avoid coastal areas, rivers, and streams due to flooding risk.
Never attempt to drive through flooded roads.
Follow instructions from local authorities once the storm passes.
Emergency Contact Information
Please ensure your emergency contact information is current with the company. In the event of a storm, it may be crucial to reach you quickly. If your information has changed, contact your supervisor or HR to update it immediately.
Stay safe, stay prepared, and look out for one another this hurricane season!
