Back-to-School Driving Safety

As students across Louisiana head back to school, our morning and afternoon commutes are getting busier. School buses are back on the road, school zones are active, and more children are walking, biking, and waiting near roadways.

Boss Energy Solutions reminds everyone to slow down, stay alert, and eliminate

distractions behind the wheel.

School Zones

• Slow down and obey all posted school-zone speed limits.

• Watch carefully for crossing guards, children, and increased pedestrian traffic.

• Be especially alert near crosswalks, school entrances, and carpool lines.

• Put the phone down. Louisiana law prohibits holding or manually using a wireless device while driving.

School Bus Safety

• When a school bus stops with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, stop at least 30 feet away.

• Do not proceed until the bus begins moving again or its warning signals are no longer activated.

• Remember: traffic traveling in the opposite direction must also stop unless the bus is on a separate roadway divided by a physical barrier or median.

• Never attempt to pass a stopped school bus while children are loading or unloading.

Stay Alert

Back-to-school traffic can change your normal commute. Give yourself a little extra time, avoid distractions, and expect the unexpected — especially during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal.
